PROFILE

Meet Peter Schneider

Hello and welcome, I’m Dr Peter Schneider,
the Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at Precision Orthopaedics.

Background
During my Trauma training, I spent six months in the Intensive Care Unit at Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre, a U.S. military hospital in Germany caring for wounded soldiers returning from the war zone.  After eighteen years of military service and achieving the rank of Major, I transitioned to civilian practice, earning specialist certification in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Kaiserslautern Westfaltz Hospital – a major university hospital in Germany.  I later completed advanced fellowships in Knee and Hip Arthroplasty at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital in the UK, one of the largest joint replacement centres in the country.

My life changed for the better in 2015, when my family and I embraced an opportunity to live and work in New Zealand. I gained full vocational Orthopaedic Surgery registration in 2017 and joined Aorangi Orthopaedic Centre, where I benefitted from mentorship and collaboration.  In 2024, I moved on to pursue new directions in care and opportunities in business.
Today
I currently serve as Head of Orthopaedics at Palmerston North Hospital. I train surgeons in complex revision procedures to improve patient access and outcomes.  I am one of only three local surgeons with fellowship training in joint replacement. I stay current on developments and services available in the Orthopaedic field to ensure my patients receive the best possible care. For three years, I have actively promoted the introduction of robot-assisted surgery in the region.  Being an Orthopaedic Surgeon and the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of my patients is one of life’s great joys.

Personal Life
Outside of medicine, the other great joys of my life are being a devoted Christian, husband, father of four wonderful children and a grandfather to my beautiful seven-year-old granddaughter.  My daughter Kaylee and son Jacob remained in the U.S., while Brendan is pursuing professional football in Malta, and Joshua is excelling academically in Year 9 at Palmerston North Boys High School.  My granddaughter Kensley goes to school and lives in Florida with my daughter Kaylee and Kaylee’s fiancé Matt.  Despite the geographical distance of our international family, my wife Kari and I remain closely involved in the lives of our children and granddaughter.
We are the best virtual grandparents!

I enjoy staying active through hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding and spending time with my family on our lifestyle property. I approach patient care with integrity, experience, and a commitment to doing what’s right for each patient.  I look forward to the opportunity to serve you, meeting you and learning your story.
